The goal of the University of Cape Town Mastercard Scholarship Programme is to transform promising young people from beneficiaries to benefactors by providing them with the values, knowledge, skills, and leadership needed to fuel economic and social progress across Africa.
The Programme seeks academically qualified undergraduate and postgraduate applicants from Africa who are economically challenged and have leadership potential.
The Programme will give academically bright young Africans with scholarships to study undergraduate and postgraduate studies at UCT.

Scholarship Information: Students get their IMES when they begin their first year at UBC, and the scholarships are renewable for up to three years.
Each year, the quantity and level of these scholarships offered change based on available resources.
Scholarship Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for this scholarship:
You must be an African citizen.
Be willing to study at UCT in the faculties of Engineering and the Built Environment, Commerce, Health Sciences, Humanities, Law, or Sciences.
Be from a low-income family, demonstrate financial need, and have leadership potential.
Applicants who plan to enrol in a second Masters degree programme at the same level are unable to apply for this grant.
Applicants who have previously registered for a Masters degree at any higher learning institution are ineligible to apply for this award.
Scholarship Duration and Benefits
The Programme will give academically bright young Africans with scholarships to study undergraduate and postgraduate studies at UCT.
Mentoring, leadership development, academic and life skills support will be provided to students enrolled in the Programme. Tutoring, language training, writing circles, and guidance counselling will be provided as academic support.
Application Method
Applicants must first apply to the University of Cape Town for academic study and placement before applying to The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme. Only individuals who have applied to UCT for academic study and placement may apply for a Mastercard Foundation scholarship. The admission requirements for postgraduate studies vary depending on the programme. Consult the faculty member directly to determine what is required for the course or degree that you wish to pursue. Step 1: Go to the University of Cape Town’s Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme website.
Step 2: Register for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme.
Step 3: Pass the eligibility test.
Step 4: Submit an application for the Mastercard Foundation Masters Scholarship.
Step 5: Attach certified copies of identification documents, passports or refugee papers, proof of address, current and prior post-secondary transcripts, proof of complete/current degree, curriculum vitae, essay, statement and signatures, and affidavit declaration.
Step 6: Choose two recommenders.
