The NRF-MINDS Postgraduate Scholarship seeks academically brilliant African scholars from low-income families to pursue postgraduate study at some of the leading universities on the continent.
Over a five-year period, MINDS will fund and support 45 Honours and Master’s scholars to study at African universities outside their home country, while the NRF will fund 50 Doctoral scholars from the rest of the continent based at South African universities.

Scholarship Details:
The DSI and NRF are pleased to announce a call for new applications for DSI-NRF Postgraduate Student Funding for the academic year 2023.
All continuing students who are qualified for funding for a second or third year must submit a Progress Report rather than a fresh application.
Scholarship Requirements:
The scholarship project will assist postgraduate students in vital disciplines for the continent, including African Heritage, the Water-Energy-Food Nexus, the Smart Economy, ICT, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and Health. These students will directly contribute to the development of a pool of young leaders committed to playing a crucial role in building a more connected African economy with rapid growth, resulting in favourable consequences for all African countries.
Be a citizen of an African country other than South Africa and a resident of any African country.
Be thirty-two (32) tears of age or younger on 31 December of the year of application for the doctorate scholarship and intend to pursue full-time PhD studies at a SA public university beginning in the following academic year of application.
